Depression & Anxiety Clinic
Depression is one of the most common causes of disability in the world today. Across the lifespan it occurs in almost of the population and costs the UK almost 10 billion per year. The rate of new drug treatments for depression is slowing down and many people either cannot or do not wish to take anti-depressant medication because of its side effects.
At London Cognition we offer a treatment called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), which has been proven to be at least as effective as any anti-depressant, has few side effects, and has been approved by NICE in the UK and equivalent Government bodies in the US (FDA) and Canada (Health Canada).
TMS works by electrically stimulating areas of the brain associated with depression. The treatment takes 30-40 minutes per session over 20 sessions. At London Cognition, TMS is prescribed by an independent medical practitioner. At other clinics, the prescribing doctor is part of the business. This independence is an important ethical step in our view. Every patient undergoing the treatment will have a separate consultation with a scientific expert in the method to ensure that all technical and scientific, as well as clinical questions are answered. The treatment will be delivered by a trained nurse or technician.
